Clay Mode began as a vision between a small group of full-time ceramic artists who work and play in the San Francisco Bay Area. Their primary goal was to create a pottery-based group to combine resources and knowledge, while also promoting their individual work, educating the public about the importance of handmade ceramics, and supporting one another.

The Clay Mode meets a least once a month. The members regularly collaborate on a variety of projects, from public relations and group shows, to buying shipping boxes in bulk and debating the finer points of bubble wrap.
